Vancouver Recruiters

Dear HR managers and business owners,

With summer just around the corner, our minds naturally turn to family excursions, backyard barbeques, and long, lazy days at the beach. No one wants to think about the headaches of recruiting and training new staff. Unfortunately, we still have to, because these challenges don't go on vacation-they stay with us year-round. And People First is here to help.

In this Issue of People Pulse, you'll discover the single best interview question, the one thing you can ask candidates to learn the most about their suitability to the job. You'll also find helpful advice on effectively and efficiently orienting new hires, to increase staff retention and protect your investment in the recruitment process.

Don't forget to check out or latest People Poll on computer viruses and the responses to last month's question, "How well does your job description match what you are really doing?" As always, we welcome your suggestions about future polls. Please tell us what you want to know!

Cheers,

Recruiting

The Best Interview Question of All Time

Over the course of the past 20 years, I've been searching for - among other things - the single best question to ask in an interview. What I wanted to create was a One-Question Interview, a stand-alone query that would pierce through the veneer of generalizations, overcome typical candidate nervousness, minimize the impact of the candidate's personality on the interviewer, eliminate the exaggeration which many candidates adopt as an interviewing ploy and actually determine if the candidate is competent and motivated to do the work required. As a goal, this, as I'm sure you'll agree, is not chopped liver. And through years of trial and error, I finally hit upon one question that did it all.

Retaining

A Manager's Guide to Employee Orientation

The first week on the job can play a crucial role in motivating and retaining new employees. We often spend lots of time and money recruiting and wooing new employees and as soon as they start we turn around and treat them like barely welcome strangers.

We need to begin looking at recruiting as only half of the task of hiring. Orientation is the other, often ignored element. Just like a parent adopting a new child, the role a manager plays during the first week is of critical importance if the employee-manager relationship is to progress rapidly.

How to Recruit & Retain Top Talent

Superior employees typically outperform average employees by at least 25 percent. These employees are hard to find, and even harder to retain. Even top employers can find themselves at a loss as to how to compete for this talent in a competitive market place.

This informative workshop will help you develop the key skills needed as a manager to find, assess, and select top candidates. You will also learn how to retain the employees you already have.
