Vancouver Recruiters

Dear HR managers and business owners,

It's November in Vancouver, and from now until March no one has it easier than the weather forecasters: it's a safe bet for them to call for rain because they'll probably be right, and if they're wrong we'll be too happy about not getting wet to complain about the inaccuracy of the forecast. In any other line of work, however, the future is much more difficult to predict, and the cost of getting things wrong is much higher.

That's why it's so important to hire the right person for the right job, the first time. Get this one wrong, and you'll be facing more than a little damp. According to a recent article in the Vancouver Sun, it costs 41% of an annual salary to replace a front-line worker, and 177% for professionals. With managers, it's even higher: 244% of an annual salary. And that's a lot of rain.

So if you're looking for an umbrella, come to People First Solutions. Our exceptionally high 98% success rate can help reduce the risk of such costly turnover.

I hope you enjoy our latest issue.

Cheers,

Paul Gibbons

The Secrets of Hiring Top People

Some companies have created extensive competency models, but haven't seen much difference in the quality of their new hires. Other companies have started top-grading, but also haven't seen much difference in the quality of their new hires. Still other companies rely on the tried and true behavioral interview and - not surprisingly - haven't seen the quality of their new hires increase by much. Then there are the companies which still use traditional job descriptions and gut feelings to make hiring decisions: believe it or not, they haven't seen much difference in the quality of their new hires either.

The Gift No Employer Wants this Holiday: A Lawsuit

Its time to celebrate! At this time of year companies across BC are planning their end of the year holiday parties. It's one of the few opportunities most companies take to celebrate the successes of the year, share some laughs with co-workers, and reward a hard working team. However, in some cases, parties also bring the potential for lawsuits. There are a number of precautions that you can take to ensure that your occasion is safe, enjoyable, and not likely to end with this "gift".
