Dear HR Managers and Business Owners, What's ahead for BC businesses in 2008? Growth, but for many, increasing expectations to do more with less despite the growth. According to over 400 organizations who participated in the first HR trends survey conducted by BC Human Resources Management Association in March, the main focus for HR in the coming year is in the area of recruitment and retention. With the tightening labor pool as a background, 57% of respondents indicated recruiting the right people was a top priority. This was followed very closely by a focus on retaining staff with 48% of respondents indicating this as a priority. Yet despite these challenges, Fewer than 28% of respondents expected any type of budget increase. A challenge? You bet it is. This month's article provides an interesting perspective on how small companies can have an advantage in meeting expectations with fewer resources when it comes to recruiting. Cheers,
