Our Client:
The Real Estate Compensation Fund Corporation, (RECFC) was created under the Real Estate Services Act (RESA) and came into effect January 1, 2005. RECFC replaces the former bonding requirement for all real estate agents and brokerages and provides protection for a member of the public who has entrusted a licensee with money that was either: obtained by fraud of licensee or individual; misappropriated or wrongly converted or intentionally not paid over or accounted for. Claims on the fund are filed with the Compensation Committee of the Real Estate Council of British Columbia however the fund itself is administered by RECFC. The Board of Directors of RECFC consists of Directors appointed by the Real Estate Council of British Columbia and the British Columbia Real Estate Association.
The Role:
We are searching for an Executive Officer who will provide administrative support to the Board and who will develop and maintain relationships with government and industry leaders in the real estate sector. The Executive Officer will provide full support to the Board and the Corporation in administering their affairs including assisting in organizing all Board meetings, preparation of background papers, correspondence and other materials related to meeting agenda as well as take and distribute minutes of meetings. The Executive Officer will also prepare and submit an annual budget for Board approval; have direct oversight for the financial administration of the Corporation including monitoring cash requirements of the Fund, liaising with auditors, actuary, bankers, legal counsel and external investment advisors. The Executive Officer will also maintain financial books and records which includes monthly and annual reporting to directors; financial reporting; preparation of annual financial statements and working papers and co-ordination for annual audit.
The individual to fill this position must have demonstrated leadership experience at the CEO/EO/Board Secretary level and possess a proven ability to build and manage multiple professional relationships. Experience in public administration, association management or business management is strongly preferred as is experience in professional/occupational regulation. Consideration will also be given to candidates with experience in real estate related activities or Not For Profit organizations. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills; have excellent writing skills and be a superior verbal communicator. This is a “hands on role” and the right candidate will be required to maintain the accounting books and records for the corporation. This role is expected to be a part time position requiring on average 2 days per week and will require the successful candidate to have their own office space complete with common business tools and equipment.
