Stella Custom Glass Hardware, a Canadian-owned company, operating since 2001, is a North American distributor, manufacturer and supplier supporting the creation of iconic glass structures utilizing innovative glass hardware. Stella’s purpose is to create beautiful and reliable solutions that enhance the owner and the architect’s vision by specializing in custom design and a collaborative approach. Stella creates hardware that transitions a vision into a unique and buildable solution. The systems eliminate the need for fully framed glass and allow for highly transparent all glass walls, roofs and balustrades. Stella produces the shiny bits of metal on the corners of the glass on the Canada and Evergreen Line stations, Sparkling Hills in Vernon BC, Yorkdale Mall in Toronto, the glass roof of YVR Canada Line station, Holt Renfrew, Bentall Cactus Club, to name a few. Stella Custom Glass Hardware is searching for a Director of Engineering to join the team.

 

The Role:

The Director of Engineering will lead and manage the engineering team through all engineering activities relating to multiple projects prior to and during the production and installation phases. The Director will be an excellent leader who works collaboratively with team members and clients alike, taking responsibility for getting the job done. The successful candidate will lead the project and engineering team and manage R&D, new product development, quality control and continuous improvement. This individual will lead the engineering team in the preparation of project documentation such as shop, assembly and part drawings, bills of materials and product specifications, oversee the preparation of cost estimates, following all projects through to completion.

 

The Responsibilities:

Responsible for engineering design and project management, positioning the company to be in the forefront of innovative architectural solutions

Manage operational functions including Quality Control, R&D, Preparation of drawings and Project scheduling

Create a work environment where the team is happy to work and consistently perform at their peak.

Motivate team members to grow personally, build team cohesion, provide guidance and direction, hold team accountable and achieve a positive culture where team members are confident and hold one another accountable

Effective communication with external stakeholders, including customers, architects, engineers and contractors, from the quotation phase to final installation

Financial performance of projects

 

The Requirements:

A PEng designation in relevant engineering (structural, civil, mechanical) is required

Proven track record in effective project management (PMP designation is an asset)

A creative solution finder with a passion for architectural design

Strong construction and technical knowledge – glazing, fenestration and curtain wall experience is an asset

Strong attention to detail, with ability to oversee the big picture

Involved in the whole process, ensuring the end product reaches the customer as promised

From tender-ready to shop drawings, engineering and through to installation, this individual demonstrates energy and a sense of urgency when executing day-to-day responsibilities

Has initiative and entrepreneurial drive to grow and sustain a thriving business
